The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using the high frequency linear probe of a 12-MHz sono-phono system to locate tendon and joint structures at a depth of 40 to 50 mm in humans. The distance between the probe and the structures was measured with a goniometer. A "cat and mouse" game was set up with the cat being a single image of the joint structures and the mouse being the probe. A total of 42 scans were done on 26 volunteers. For detecting the tendons, the sensitivity of the 12-MHz probe was 3.4 mm +/- 0.8 mm. The mean tendon thickness was 4.1 mm. The tendons were more difficult to detect at the level of the medial epicondyle. The differences between the mean tendon thickness measured in the right and left leg were not significant ac619d1d87
